NIKE Reuse a Shoe Update! 04/19/2012
The 7th grade Green Team members counted up the shoes collected so far this week-420 pairs of shoes; only 80 pairs left to collect with 2 days to go. Let's show that St. Mary School spirit and meet our goal of collecting 500 pairs of shoes for NIKE to remake into tennis courts, gym floors and tracks. 181 pairs of shoes collected so far this week! Bring on the kicks for BRING YOUR OLD KICKS TO SCHOOL WEEK! Mrs. Zima's class is winning the race with 25 pairs of shoes collected to date. After reviewing our Green School application the Macomb County Board of Commissioners designated St. Mary School a MI Green School with evergreen status for the 2011-2012 school year. Congratulations and thanks go to the staff, students and parent volunteers that helped us accomplish the necessary Green School points to achieve evergreen status. Save your electronics to recycle on April 21 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Mary School. All electronics, except for televisions, will be accepted for recycling. A suggested donation of $5 will support our Green School efforts. Green Team Works to Save Energy at School 01/25/2012
The Green Team met today and worked on projects to save energy at our school. Students constructed yarn computer humbugs to remind teachers and staff to save energy by turning off the power strip at the end of the day and colored signs to remind everyone to turn off the lights when not in use. Turn your WORN OUT KICKS into NEW PLACES TO PLAY! We are teaming up with Nike Reuse-A-Shoe for a shoe drive and need your help. St. Mary NJHS and the Green Team will collect worn out sneakers on April 16-21 so Nike can recycle them into new places to play like playgrounds, running tracks, football fields, basketball courts and more. Any brand is okay, but only athletic shoes without metal or cleats and no damp or muddy shoes, sandals or flip-flops will be accepted. Welcome to the St. Mary Green School Blog! 01/19/2012
